Deadwood & Devil’s Tower

Today was mostly uneventful all things considered. But we did get to see a few really amazing places.

Our first stop was a town called Deadwood. And (As my mom said) it looked like it had been frozen in time. All the buildings and signs and even roads were decorated to look like the Wild West. Even some of the food and merchandise seemed like it was from the 1800’s.

Our other pit stop was a place called Devil’s Tower. We don’t know exactly how it got there, but it looked like a giant, flat volcano.

And then, after our two pitstops, we continued on our drive to Yellowstone. The views the entire time were amazing. We passed through a valley that may have easily been one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.

I fell asleep shortly after that so I don’t remember much about the rest of the day, but the part I do remember was amazing.

Day 4 New Friends and 🍦

Today is day 4. we went to mr. Donee’s house. He has two kids Rose and Robert. Robert is 6 and Rose is 9. Before we went to there house we did some sightseeing we saw the Mississippi River. we went to the sassy caw it’s a really good ice cream place in Wisconsin. The ice cream at sassy caw is made of fresh milk from Wisconsin cow’s. At the sassy cow I got coconut caw I think. After we left the sassy caw we went to mr. Donee’s house we played Mario party. We ate bratwurst and corn for dinner. Then we played more Video games then we went back to are camper. I do not remember going to are campsite because I feel asleep on our way to the campsite.

Day 6 Recap

It was, yet again, another early morning wakeup and a day of mostly driving. On this day, however, our tour guide (that’s Doug, if you don’t know our dynamic 😉) decided to go a bit rogue and make a few unscheduled pit stops along the way from South Dakota to Wyoming! They were a great way to break up the drive and really fun to check out. I’m exhausted and out of words, so I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story…

Deadwood, South Dakota was such a unique
little town loaded with character!
This stop was about 35 minutes out of the way
but definitely worth checking out!
The line to get into the official “park” was super long, as expected, but you could still take in the views from afar. Just before the entrance, there is a Trading Post and we took these pictures on their back deck!
9:30pm – we finally made it to the front
entrance of Yellowstone National Park!

Day 5 Driving and Mount Rushmore

Today is day 5. We have 19 full days left. Today we drove from Wisconsin to Minnesota to South Dakota. It was very hot in South Dakota but it cooled down at night. we drove up to Mount Rushmore. We sat there for a while waiting for the sculpture illumination to start. When it finally started it was cool. They played a video about all the presidents that were in the sculpture. Then the park ranger told us how to leave after it was over. And then they lit up the sculpture.

“Unplugging” Update

I’m super behind on my daily recaps – eek! But we’ve been having such an amazing time adventuring and it has been low on the priority list. I wanted to share on here the post I just shared on my other social media channels…

We have been adventuring for 6 days and it’s been fun sharing our travels with you. However, now is the time for us to unplug, recharge our souls and spend quality time focusing on our family. ❤️

We are on our way to Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier for the next leg of the trip. There will be many updates, photos and stories of our adventures when we come back online!

Thanks for following along with us! #4SweetsAdventure

Columbus, Ohio -> Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

The first part of the day was mostly driving, playing on our electronics, and suffering jet lag from switching time zones. But once we got to Wisconsin, things started to get more fun. We stopped at an amazing Ice Cream place called the Sassy Cow Creamery. They had delicious ice cream, flavored milk, and coffee. We even got to see how they packaged the milk! Then, once we left the Creamery, we went to see one of my mom’s coworkers and his family. They made us a delicious ‘Wisconsin special’ home-cooked meal and then my sister and I played video games with their kids for the rest of the night. Overall, it was another amazing day.

Day 2 Recap

Let me start out by asking, “what day is it?!”… “what state are we in?!” … “what time zone!?”

I sit here typing this update on Day 4 and it already feels like Day 2 is a distant memory, amazing… but distant, nonetheless. I wonder if this is what time travel would feel like. It is so surreal, and exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, though. I am not complaining one bit – having the opportunity to be able to take this once-in-lifetime trip is in no way a hardship, but I was certainly not expecting to feel this way.

Let’s time travel back to 3 days, 2 states and 1 time zone ago! Our day started in a farmer’s field in Pennsylvania and our travels took us on a safari in Ohio. Surreal, right? Stick with me, it only gets more entertaining.

You might ask, “a safari in Ohio?!”… well yes, that is exactly what I said! During COVID, quarantine broke us and, in turn, we broke all the rules. After being trapped inside our house, using all.the.words, all.day.long with all.the.people we were fresh out of new conversation topics by dinnertime. So we did what we said we would never do as parents – TV dinners!!! Gasp. I know, I know. But we chose to make it meaningful TV that could almost be considered homeschooling… things like Survivor (Life Skills 101), The Amazing Race (Leadership & Problem Solving), and Discovery+ (Science)! That last one is where Livi introduced us to a docu-series about The Wilds and The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium.

Oy vey!!! I had this entire post typed, with photos and commentary and then accidentally deleted it. Sorta kinda wanna cry 😭… So the rest of this will just be photos and brief captions, because I just can’t! Sigh. Hope you still enjoy!

Columbus Zoo

The funny thing about today was, we mostly went to the zoo to humor my sister. None of the rest of us really wanted to go because we thought it would be boring and uneventful. We were quickly proven wrong. Only fifteen minutes in, we were already enthralled with everything about the zoo. From the animals to the habitats to the decorations, everything was amazing. We saw sea lions, giant brown bears, kangaroos, baby elephants, koalas, orangutans, hyenas, lions, and so much more. We even got to pet sting rays and feed giraffes! All in all, it was an amazing day.
